about

“When Fulvio Finds Celeste” is Wytold’s debut blend of six-string, shoulder-strapped electric cello –the bodiless, stick-like instrument named ‘Fulvio’ – with his more traditional-sounding and curvaceous acoustic counterpart, ‘Celeste.’ The resulting layers of bouncing bow rhythms and melodic finger-picking combine classical inspiration with modern, aggressive, and experimental cello techniques. Moreover, Fulvio's two extra strings expand the instrument's range to capture the depth and power of a stand-up bass and the bright crispness of violin solos and harmonies. When combined with the cello's rich tonal timbre that emanates from the acoustic Celeste, the match is uniquely engaging, unique, and orchestral. Wytold performs and layers each of these many cello sounds by himself on stage in one take through live looping and improvisation. As one of three musicians to be awarded ‘Young Artist’ grants from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities in 2010, Wytold’s grant partially funded the production of this album with Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studio. Like so, Fulvio found Celeste.
